British Science Week : Learning Resources UK

This week we were gifted some learning resources products:  Yuckology and Stems. This coming week is British Science Week. Which runs between he  6th-15th March this 10 day period celebrates science, technology, engineering and maths.

STEM subjects are  very important in the workforce and schools are trying to engage with young people to become interested and passionate about such subjects. In our house we love science & technology. Messy play is great for little hands and a great way to introduce scientific concepts and mathematics.

Yuckology is aimed at children 4+ inside the box contains:

  • 1 Beaker
  • 1 Slime Strainer
  • 1 Sludge Stirrer
  • 3 Slime containers
  • 3 Slime container lids
  • 2-Piece Muck Mixer
  • Instructions/recipe cards.

These are the equipment you need for creating slime, goo and dough. You will need to purchase some household ingredients if you don’t already have them at home such as baking powder, contact lense solution and glue. You are then well on your way to creating your own messy products. The instructions are clear and easy to follow.

We made the banana slime first as this was the most simple, it smelt amazing! A is at an age where she enjoys reading instructions and K loves to mix and get mucky ( you should have seen our floor!). Our concoctions actually came out pretty well and we were able to play with the goo, dough and slime which we were pleased with as many other times when we have tried to make slime it has failed miserably.

This product retails at £15 and could be used for lots of other messy play situations not just slime, goo and dough. I could imagine the girls using these in the bath or outside with bubbles and mud too. We enjoyed using the equipment to aid the fun of creating our own yuck!

STEMS: The flexible 3D Maker Toy

STEMS are a great toy for when you only have short period of time to play. No mess, quickly pop them out of the box and play.  You can really create whatever you like and there are no limits, the girls came up with tons of great ideas. Products such as STEMS really encourage imagination and creativity. STEMS come in a pack of 20 pieces and are aimed for children age 5+. They are mega flexible and interconnect in many different ways the fun is limitless.

The whole family enjoyed building and creating with these, we set ourselves a quick challenge to see who could build the ‘best’ product We put it to an instagram vote and Daddy won with the top right creation.

Whatever you get up to during Science week we hope you get creative, challenge yourself and your little ones to try something new to excite and build an interest in STEM! It is great fun we promise!
